Questions
Ask us anything. Or read on.
The fastest way to reach us is to reply to any drop text. There's a person on the other end. Everything else is below.
What is a drop?
Truffles are seasonal and we buy in small lots, so we sell in batches rather than from a shelf. A drop opens Thursday at 5pm Pacific and closes Friday at 5pm. The list gets one text with the variety, its origin, the size, and the price. Boxes go in order until they're gone. One box per address.
What does a box cost?
Black truffles — Périgord in winter, Australian in summer — are $350 a box, delivery included. Alba White is priced at market, per drop, because the market moves week to week. Whatever the number, it's in the drop text before you claim anything, and it's the same number at checkout.
How much truffle is in a box?
A black truffle box is 100 grams. Enough for five to eight at one dinner, or several nights of cooking for two. An Alba box is sized to the week's lot and serves four to five; the weight is in the drop text.
Where do you ship?
Overnight, cold-packed, anywhere in the lower 48 states. Not Alaska or Hawaii — the transit time isn't kind to the product.
When will it arrive?
We ship Wednesday for Thursday delivery. No signature needed. The box is cold-packed and left at the door.
Do I need to be home?
No. It's fine at the door for a while. Get it into the refrigerator the moment it's opened. If Thursday is impossible for you, reply to the drop text before you claim and we'll see what can be done.
Can I send a box as a gift?
Yes. Claim it, put their address at checkout, and it ships there Wednesday. Tracking comes to you. Tell them to expect it Thursday — and to refrigerate it.
How long will they keep?
Seven days from delivery. They're at their best in the first few. Wrap in paper towel, seal in a jar, refrigerate, and change the towel every day. Never rice — it pulls the moisture out and the aroma with it. Never vacuum seal.
How should I use them?
Generously. Black truffles want heat and fat — butter, eggs, a risotto stirred at the end. White truffles are never cooked; shave them raw over something hot, at the table. The Handling page has the full guide and four recipes.
What if something's wrong with my order?
We replace it. Tell us within 24 hours of delivery with a photo, and a box from the next drop is yours. Reply to the drop text or write to hello@rootedreserve.com.
Why can't I just buy from the site?
Because we don't hold inventory. We buy against the drop, in the same week as the restaurants we buy alongside, and it ships at once. A permanent storefront would mean stale product or none.
How often will you text me?
Once per drop, when it opens. That's the whole program — no reminders, no marketing, no follow-ups. And there's no schedule: a drop goes out when the week's truffles are worth sending, in season, and not otherwise. Some months that's weekly. Out of season it's nothing.
Do you sell to restaurants?
Yes. Private households, private chefs, and restaurant accounts are supplied on standing allocation — not through the drop list. Trade → · trade@rootedreserve.com
